Being a passionate reader and a film student (well, now graduate), I have always been interested in the relationship between books and movies. I mean, how do you like movies taken from books? Is that always true that the book is better?
I think the book is better because you have the freedom of imagining the scene whilst reading - I do that atleast - and making your own movie in your mind. Then a movie has to respect timing, so in most of the cases has to cut parts and such. But this does not mean it cannot be as good as the book: they are just different types of art.
Movies I liked as much as the book: The Lord of the Rings, Atonement, Trainspotting, High Fidelity, Angela's Ashes. And The Night of the Hunter, of course, maybe even better than the book as Robert Mitchum is such a master.

I'm trying but I am not able to find any example of movies I like more than the books they are based on... I am a book junkie and a movies one as well... but... no.... no.... I quite like some adaptations as for example To kill a mockingbird, In cold Blood, Jane Eyre (speaking of Welles' one), Scarlett Letter, Breakfast at Tiffany's.... but they always seem to have the lack of something, something I can find in the books.... I'll continue thinking about this just in case but..... I don't think I'll find an example lol

(Although I've got a really big poster of it next to the puter lol I'm a disaster) And I think this one is the one I like more the movie than the book!

My fav at the moment is "the notebook". I also love "Benny & Joon". Great stories & wonderful emotion in both of them.I love romantic comedies the best including "Along Came Polly".

In relation to The Notebook, I liked the movie better than the book. I'm yet to decide if its because Ryan Gosling is a hot piece of ass, or if Nicholas Sparks is just a terrible writer.
Has anyone seen the film adaptation of The Road? Its one of my favourite books, but I wasn't sure whether the film would just aggravate me or not?
