I don't know how many times I have listened to One Mississippi ever since his debut. I truly think this is one of the best albums ever released. What I really like about this album is the opening. The first three tracks flow perfectly and they are so fantastic! "Crosseyed," "Me Just Purely," "Got No Secrets," "House in Virginia,"..... every song from One Mississippi is amazing to me.
Any thoughts?

I could not agree more! It's a shame to me that this release on a major label didn't chart and went straight under the radar... But the album is full of poppy gems that get stuck in your head! The lyrical content is amazing too, crosseyed, emma j, and house in virgina are just so well said and captivating. I always thought the way Insects Rule tell a story it sounds like a Bob Dylan-esque kinda song. There arent many artists, other than The Beatles that make an album that you can listen to all the way through without skipping a song... Benson is one of those artists, and this album proves that. There is not one song on this album that I don't like.

One Mississippi is by far one of the best albums of the 90's. I wish i knew about it when it first came out. It's just one of those albums thats you can play from start to finish without wanted to skip ahead, where every song leads perfectly into the next. The drumming on the album is also much more fierce than on his other records. I like that thought.

i happened to come across an original 1996 copy of the album in the store the other day, and to my surprise, the album originally had different artwork (the pic of him laying down with his legs crossed was on the cover). i had no idea!! funny how the re-release is the official album art now. (though i do prefer the new cover better)

What's everyone's favorite track? Mine's House in Virginia. I like how it starts out stripped down to just Brendan and the guitar and then as the song goes along more and more is added. The chorus is very pretty. I also like the fact that he's describing this beautiful place but it feels like it can't be happy without someone to have it with. It's a lonely song to be lonely too. The only time she ever is in the house is at the very end and it seems like it's a memory and for a minute the song isn't lonely anymore until he says "I'm done"
