As a big vinyl collector, I've always been sure to get all my favorite albums on the format. Being a fan of BB is difficult though, seeing as how his stuff really never got the vinyl treatment. I have My Old, Familiar Friend on vinyl, but The Alternative to Love is very hard to come across. Also, One Mississippi and Lapalco never saw a vinyl release at all. It's a shame.
There would be a huge market for his albums on vinyl. For every 1 BB fan who discovered him as a solo act never hearing of him before, there are 10 BB fans who know about him through Jack White. JW fans are the biggest vinyl collectors around. I'd love it if Brendan got something going and released his albums on vinyl, even if it was just a limited release type thing. I know they would sell. I'd certainly buy them and know many others who would too.
What BB vinyl do you all have? What do you think of all this?

I have My Old Familiar Friend and Alternative to Love on vinyl, plus one or two of the 7" singles that were released.
I picked up Alternative To Love at a record fair - or at least my friend bought it for me while she was visiting as I had to work while she went to the fair. (Love you Judy!)
Personally I think everything sounds better on vinyl along with the actual art of putting on the record and admiring the artwork, love!
Plus it's another thing to collect and God, I love stuff.
Some artist's music I get by downloading only, but Brendan is one of those musicians whose releases I must own the physical copies of. Otherwise you miss out on half the story!
I have to say though, from what you've mentioned about Jack White and his fans, I hate the thought of people wanting to own vinyl just because Jack White says so. I say this because when I was queuing for Record Store Day a few weeks ago I was chatting to the people ahead of me in the queue and I find out that loads of them didn't even own a record player. What's up with that? How can you buy vinyl if you don't own a player???

I've talked about this with people before, I'd LOVE to have One Mississippi and Lapalco on vinyl. Not just to say I have them which is a stupid thing about collecting, but as Soph said to gently put the needle down and watch the record spin while I admire its packaging.
I don't understand this whole business of MUSTHAVEMINTCONDITIONMUSTNOTPLAYIT business of collectors. There's a bit in Toy Story 2 where Woody says something about toys being there to be played with, that's exactly how I feel about everything I own. Even if something gets a little battered or grazed, one day you'll be able to pick it up and say "man, I've had good times with this thing". What's life without that?

I talked to Brendan about this very topic after his show in Omaha, NE last November. I asked if there was a chance of ever getting Lapalco and One Mississippi on on vinyl. He said he would love to do it but he no longer owns the rights to those albums, the record company does.

BAH. Record companies! Jasmin, OHMYGOD yes. Toys are there to be played with. I mean you've seen my living room - I actually have toys that I play with hehe! And even better, other people love to play when they come round. I don't know what else to say really, you said it perfectly!

Don't forget the Wellfed Boy promo vinyl that came out before One Mississippi. It shows up on ebay every once and a while.

so he doesn't own the rights to his music...and if im correct, those albums are on labels that he no longer works with. does that mean his albums are 100% unavailable at the moment? cd and vinyl out of print? (aside from the most recent one). If the only way to get his first few albums in on itunes, this is a sad, sad day.

It just means that Brendan can't take those songs from Lapalco or Alternative to Love or whathaveyou and put them out on vinyl or start selling them in another format without permission.

Amazon is a good place to pick up Brendan releases. I bought all the CD singles from there a few years ago for! They're a good thing to have as they are full of gorgeous b-sides and they look great on display with the albums!
Otherwise you've got e(vil)Bay!

Think Alternative to Love is being reissued. Just bought a copy for cheap on ebay and it's sealed so I decided to look into it. Did a google search and found it with an arrival date of 8/28-9/2/2010.
